Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 25, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Check My IP ("we", "our", "the site") processes when you use this website, and how that information is handled. This tool is provided as an IP-lookup utility and does not require you to create an account or submit any personal information directly.

1. Information We Process

When you visit Check My IP, the following information is processed in order to provide the core functionality of the site:

  • Your public IP address (IPv4 and/or IPv6): detected automatically so that we can display it back to you and look up its approximate location.
  • Approximate geolocation data (city, region, country, time zone, ISP, ASN): derived from your IP address via a third-party geolocation API, purely to display it to you on screen.
  • Browser and request metadata (such as User-Agent and Accept-Language headers): used only to detect your preferred language and to serve the page correctly.

We do not store your IP address or geolocation results in a database or log file for later use. Each lookup is performed live, at the moment you load the page.

2. Cookies

This site uses two first-party, non-tracking cookies purely for functional purposes:

  • site_lang — remembers your selected display language.
  • site_theme — remembers your selected visual theme (light, dark, or dark blue).

These cookies do not contain personal data, are not used for advertising or cross-site tracking, and are not shared with any third party. You can clear them at any time through your browser's settings.

3. Third-Party Services

To provide IP and location lookups, this site makes requests to the following third-party services on your behalf. Each of these services may process your IP address independently, under their own privacy policies:

  • ip-api.com — used server-side to resolve approximate geolocation data from an IP address.
  • ipify.org — used client-side (in your browser) to detect your public IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.
  • OpenStreetMap — used to display an embedded map of the approximate location.

We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of these third-party providers if you have specific concerns about how they handle IP address data.

4. Data Retention

Because IP and geolocation lookups are performed live and are not written to persistent storage on our end, there is no server-side retention period to describe for this data. Cookie values described in Section 2 persist in your browser for up to one year, or until you clear them.

5. Children's Privacy

This site is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the tool or applicable regulations. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised.

7. Contact

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, please contact the site operator through the channel provided on this website.
